STORY DIORAMAS
April 23
Luba and Andrij Chornodolsky (who have grandchildren at our school) brought large dioramas of three Ukrainian children's stories as part of our annual Readathon. They presented three stories to students in our younger grades: Natalochka and the Silver Fish - Наталочка і срібляста рибка, The Grasshopper -Коник Стрибунець, and The Story of Two Goats - Дві кізочки. They also presented displays of other Ukrainian stories. Дякуємо, панство Чорнодольські!

Our school recently established a sister-school relationship with School #15 in Severodonetsk. The students there sent us drawings depicting our new friendship.
Holodomor Memorial Weekend Events
Our school sent a bus full of students, teachers, and parents to the Holodomor Memorial Dedication ceremony on Nov. 7. Many more of our families came on their own, stayed for the march to the White House, visited the exhibit at Union Station, and attended the Nov. 8 concert at Lisner Auditorium at GWU. This was a memorable weekend which will surely make a lasting impression on our students.

Learning about the Holodomor
In preparation for our school's participation in the Holodomor Memorial Dedication, students in our upper grades learned more about this artificial famine of 1932-33 from presenter Ella Lamakh, a visiting Fulbright scholar who heads the Center for the Development of Democracy in Kyiv.
У школі 31 жовтня для старших класів було проведено лекцію-диспут за презентацією теми Голодомор 1932-1933. Тему підготувала та провела Елла Ламах - голова громадської організації "Центр Розвиток демократії".

In October, two of our upper-grade teachers attended the Shkilna Rada meeting at Soyuzivka: Literature teacher and Assistant Principal for Upper Grades Anastasiya Chebotarova, and Geography teacher Ihor Sytnikov. Ihor participated in a theatrical performance at this conference, playing the role of the father in Mykola Kulish's play "Myna Mazailo".
Учителі школи активно взяли участь та провели обмін досвідом, творчим доробком та науково-методичними підходами викладання. Учитель географії Ігор Ситніков та учитель літератури Анастасія Чеботарьова взяли участь у щорічній Всеукраїнській вчительській конференції шкіл українознавства в штаті Нью Йорк, що проводила ШКІЛЬНА РАДА ПРИ УККА ЦЕНТРАЛЯ ШКІЛ УКРАЇНОЗНАВСТВА В США. Ігор Ситініков також брав участь у Театрі вчителів імені Леся Курбаса, та грав роль батька у п'єсі "Мина Мазайло" за пєсою Миколи Куліша. Aнастасія Чеботарьова представляла методично-науковий звіт роботи школи та проект книжки української літератури для 6 класу, що підготовлено до друку.

"Kazky" Dioramas
Pani Luba and Pan Andrij Chornodolsky visited our school on April 18 with two of their large-scale dioramas showing scenes from the stories "Ripka" (Turnip) and "Kolosok" (The Rooster and Two Mice). Members of the Ukrainian group "Mandry", with Foma, visited our school and Plast Stanytsia for a mini-performance on March 28, to thank our students and plastuny for packing lots of boxes of donations for shipping to refugees and soldiers in Ukraine the previous week. It was a wonderful mini-concert!

Our Ukrainian School and Plast Stanytsia have been bringing in donations for refugees and soldiers in Ukraine. Saturday, March 14 was packing day. Students and parents did a great job! Our donations will go to Sloviansk, Artemivsk, and Kyiv. Organized by: Olia Onyshko and Oleh Voloshyn.
