Flag from Ukrainian Veterans
A team of Ukrainian Veterans of the war in the east who were here to run the in Marine Corps Marathon on October 28th, presented our 4th grade teacher, Iryna Rybytva, with a flag as a gift to our school. The flag, which reads «В єднанній - сила» and «Ніхто крім нас» ("In unity - strength" and "None other than us") is signed with the names of the Ukrainian marathoners (though that's not visible in the image). The flag itself will be hanging in the cafeteria this Saturday. Come and take a look!

Letter from Ukraine
During the first two weeks of school our students wrote letters to the Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines of the war with words of support and encouragement. This week, we received a response a soldier. He also sent back some History of the Ukrainian State books for our upper grades.

Сторони обговорили як уряд України може підтримати діаспору в США, розробку підручників та методологічних матеріалів для суботніх шкіл та продовження співпраці в майбутньому. Протягом 85-ти днів Символічна Свіча Пам'яті буде запалюватися щодня в одній з країн світу і промандрує по 5 континентах, щоб завершити свою подорож у Міжнародний дня пам'яті жертв Голодомору 24 листопада 2018 р. у м. Київ. Будь ласка приходьте з родинами і друзями та приносьте свічки!

The Embassy of Ukraine and the U.S. Committee for Holodormor-Genocide Awareness are holding a candlelight vigil for victims of the Holodomor this Thursday, October 4 at 7pm at the Holodomor Memorial (near Union Station, at the corner of N. Capitol Street and Massachusetts Ave NW). See below for more details on the vigil and the larger campaign it's a part of. Please attend (and bring your own candles) if you are able.
