Teachers and volunteers for the next school year needed!

Attention Ukrainian School families! We need to make you aware of the very real possibility that we will need to close our Svitlychka program in fall 2021. Our efforts to identify someone willing to lead Svitlychka next year have thus far been unsuccessful. To ensure a smooth transition to a new teacher/new teachers for fall 2021, if we are not able to fill the teacher position by the beginning of June, we will cancel Svitlychka.

Please step up to take on this wonderful program that gives so many of our kids their first introduction to other Ukrainian kids just like them. We are open to team teaching, so if you’d like to team up with a friend and take alternating Saturdays or alternating months, that could also be an option. We will have teacher’s assistants in the classroom to provide extra hands-on help. If you’re unable to teach, ask friends who might be a good fit to teach our preschoolers. Anyone who is interested or would like additional information should contact our director, Oleh Vretsona (ukieschooldc.pres@ukrainianschooldc.org).

In addition to Svitlychka, we also need teachers for:
  • Culture
  • 10th grade
  • and possibly more!

The teachers who are leaving have been with us for a long time. It's time for some new folks to step up and receive the torch so we can keep our school going. Materials and curricula for all of these classes already exist (though new teachers are welcome to modify if they like), so prep work for teaching is minimal. For the future of our school, please give serious consideration to teaching.

We also need:
  • New director
  • Board Member
  • Volunteers to coordinate the Bake Sale, Torte Sale and Talent Show
  • Lead PR/fundraising volunteer.
If you can help, please reach out to Oleh Vretsona (ukieschooldc.pres@ukrainianschooldc.org) or anyone on the Board. Thank you!

Outdoor Oksana Mukha Concert

Picture
Ukrainian School is proud to be a co-sponsor of an upcoming charity concert to raise funds for wounded Ukrainian soldiers' medical expenses. The Найкращі Пісні України("Best songs of Ukraine") concert features the beautiful voice of distinguished artist of Ukraine, Oksana Mukha.

The concert will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, May 6th, outdoors at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Social distancing and masks required.

Tickets are $35 for those 14 and up (13 and younger are free), and can be purchased online at: www.rsu-concert.eventbrite.com or by calling Iryna at 240-431-8661.
Come on out (with your leashed, well-mannered dog if you like),
sing along with your masked Ukrainian School friends and support a good cause!

Please take some time to read through School Rules and Regulations for this academic year, including a new (short) section with rules pertaining specifically to online learning.

Book Sales and Returns on September 12, 2020
***This will be purely functional and is not intended as a social event***
We will hold book/materials sales this Saturday, September 12th, from 9am to 12pm in the parking lot at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 4250 Harewood Road NE, Washington, DC.  When you pull into the parking lot, one of our volunteers will hand you the order form(s) for materials for your child's/children's class(es).  Please bring your own pen and fill out the order form(s), including your child's name, and write your check for the appropriate amount in your car.  When you have everything filled out, please come over to the book tables and we will give you the required materials.  If you have questions, please fill out everything that you can before coming to the book table.  Please remember to wear a mask when leaving your vehicle.

You can view the full list of books and materials below if you'd like to check what your child will need against materials you may already have at home.  For grades 7-9, anything that is a new addition for that grade is highlighted in yellow. The other materials are carry overs from the previous year.

If you have school library or other school-owned materials at home, please bring them on Saturday. We will have a box marked for book returns.
